Shooting news – Rocker refused shotgun licence

“I want to get a shotgun and a flat cap and go shooting like they all do in the country.”

These were the words uttered by never-far-from-the-headlines rocker Pete Doherty this week as he revealed his desire to indulge in a bit of time behind the trigger.

But any plans the 27-year-old bad boy of rock ‘n’ roll had for bagging a grouse or two were scuppered when the authorities turned down his application for a shotgun licence.

With a string of drug convictions to his name, as well as a reputation for wild drunkenness and excessive partying, Doherty’s record of numerous court appearances and prison time proved too much for local bobbies who refused to grant him the necessary paperwork.

The Hexham-born singer is said to be bitterly disappointed that he won’t be able to use a shotgun after reportedly becoming interested in hunting and shooting whilst spending time at on-off girlfriend Kate Moss’ Cotswolds estate.

A friend close to Doherty told reporters, “He loves nothing more than going to the Cotswolds with Kate and chilling out.

“But recently he decided he wanted to get more of a taste for the country and thought that he could take up shooting.

“He told a handful of pals about his plans and they all told him to go for it.”

The controversial pop star won’t be able to ‘go for it’, however, and not allowed to wield a shotgun, he’ll instead have to be satisfied with simply watching as his supermodel girlfriend does the shooting.

And I’m sure it won’t be such a bad view.
